Student Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in high school (grades 9-12) and reside in or attend school in Plainfield.
     

  • Have a positive attitude, believe in their own ability to grow academically and personally, and be willing to engage in the program.
     

  • Commit to attending the full program session (including required trainings or orientations) and arrive promptly each day.
     

  • Be able to participate in all major program elements: classroom instruction (using the IRC curriculum), enrichment activities, field trips, morning gatherings (Harambee!), and family events.

  • Give permission for Covenant Community Freedom School to gain access to student information that will support the scholar’s success in the program.
     

  • Be respectful and inclusive of peers, adults, and families from diverse backgrounds; demonstrate readiness to serve as a role-model.
     

  • Support the vision and mission of Covenant Community Freedom School.

  • Be willing to follow program policies and procedures.

  • Be willing to participate in surveys and focus groups to improve the program.
     

  • Be willing to complete any required safety screening (such as a background check or permission forms) as determined by the site.

 

Parent/Guardian Eligibility & Participation Expectations

To ensure strong family engagement and alignment with the Freedom Schools mission, parents/guardians should:

  • Provide consent and support for the student’s participation, ensuring transportation, attendance, and daily readiness.
     

  • Attend designated family engagement events, orientations, and/or training sessions provided by the program.
     

  • Support the program’s goals of literacy improvement, leadership development, and well-being—by encouraging the scholar’s attendance, efforts, and respectful behavior.

  • Give permission for Covenant Community Freedom School to gain access to student information that will support the scholar’s success in the program.

  • Maintain open communication with site staff—inform the program of any changes, needs, or concerns that may affect participation or scholar success.

  • Support the vision and mission of Covenant Community Freedom School.
     

  • Promote a safe, nurturing home environment that complements the values of the program.
     

  • Be willing to participate in surveys and focus groups to improve the program.
     

  • Recognize and support the need for adherence to program policies and procedures—such as arrival/dismissal times, permission slips, field trip rules, and code of conduct.
